A Look into the NEW Critical Electric Infrastructure Protection Act- HR 2195

The much awaited Bill is out , I have attached a copy of the Bill Full Text and the section by section Summary.

Key Points:

– In April 2009 , NERC reported that only 23% of the responding utilities identified a “critical asset” as required by the NERC 002-1, NERC suggests that Utility companies are underreporting thier assets to dodge compliance requirements.
– On going assessment shall be conducted by the DHS for all Critical Electric Infrastructures.
– “In case of reported Compromise “DHS shall conduct an investigation to determine if the security of Federally-owned critical electric infrastructure has been compromised.The investigation will focus on: extent of compromise; identification of attackers;method of penetration; ramifications of compromise; and recommended mitigation activities. ( What about Privately owned Critical Infrastructures )
